Is Wal-Mart a Health food Store?

What do you do if you don’t have health food stores, fancy city farmer’s markets or Whole Foods stores in your neck of the woods?  Are you condemned to a life of 3 for $1 store-brand mac & cheese, boxed cereals and snack cakes? Are you forced to eat a SAD (Standard American Diet)?

What if you suffer with Diabetes, Celiac disease, gluten intolerance, high blood pressure, obesity, Metabolic Syndrome, neurological or emotional dysfunctions? Are you relegated to continue feeding the symptoms? Do you have to live the rest of your life sans dessert?!?

What if the only place you can shop is a local Wal-Mart?

    Love it! Just shared this with my secretary, as she is trying to move into the gluten-free world. She watched and said – okay, I can do this. I am going to WM!

    BTW – that hat is sooo adorable! I am going to have to borrow it some time.

    Shoot…

    especially the hat. Second, great video production! Third, great information. I’m doing pretty good in my 3rd week of GF. I did wonder about buying item at Walmart, so this video made me feel much better about what I did buy. I’m eating GF, but changing what I purchase a little at a time when I run out, or when I’m making something for myself. The rest of the family isn’t there yet, but I’ve been substituting GF products where I can and no one has complained, yet. Thank you for your OUTSTANDING work to help us all be more healthy. I do have questions about other items in recipies that I’ve never used, or heard of before. I’m sure you’ll get to those eventually. In the meantime, keep it coming I LOVE it!

      C.O. – I’ve found that all of the Wal-Mart stores will stock items that are requested. If yours doesn’t carry some of these items (yet) you can write down the specific item, brand, size, etc. details and give it to the manager and ask them to stock it… maybe show them this video if they need help believing another Wal-Mart already has it ; )

    I love this! Saw your post on Mostly Homemade Mondays on Being Frugal By Choice.
    So many people are scared away from living a healthier lifestyle due to cost and the time and research it takes. They also just get frustrated when radical health livers let them know every single thing they are doing wrong. This post is a great approach! It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress.

      Frank – Thank you! I agree with you! Over the years I’ve taken a dip in every health stream that flows but I’ve learned that balance is the healthiest option by far. Extremism in anything (especially health) can be therapeutic for short-term, acute situations but isn’t so beneficial long-term. I’ve settled into my niche as being a “bridge” to help people transition without intimidation or feeling overwhelmed. Thank you for watching the video!

    Angelia…Loved the video! Our WM carries many of the same items and I often purchase them since the closest health foods store is thirty minutes away. In a pinch, it works. Thank you for the informational video and for sharing at Monday’s Musings.

      Naomi – Thanks so much! I was just in Wal-Mart yesterday and saw 2 more new items on the baking aisle that I was so happy to see – a coconut oil spray with ONLY coconut (MCT) oil as the ingredient (!) and another organic coconut flour brand. It’s becoming so much easier to make healthy choices. I enjoy our virtual visits each Monday – thank you for having me over!

    I like this! It’s true, you can eat healthy, even if you shop at Walmart, lol. It really matters what you choose to buy there… but I still prefer Costco and Winco.

      Chanelle – Thank you! We do have 1 Costco in our area – but I haven’t heard of a Winco. Does have a lot of good options?
      p.s. Love your blog name! I had a website for several years before we moved out to our homestead. Once we got here we had no internet for over a year so I had to retire my old site since I couldn’t maintain it. The name was Real Life Natural Health dot com!

    Love your hat! It looks so classy! Good video and I do believe it can be overwhelming for people to change their eating habits with so much information out there that calls for such drastic changes.
