What are therapeutic-grade essential oils?

“And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.” Ezekiel 47:12 (ESV)

God created the whole flora for those uses – the plants, vegetables, fruits and herbs – are all sufficient to address every ailment known to humankind and even the animal kind! They are best used in their whole food form as preventative medicine.

There are a variety of ways to prepare these things for medicinal use: as dried herbs, herbs preserved as tinctures, prepared as teas and oils – even essences, hydrosols and homeopathies.

Each of those forms of natural medicine have their own individual constituents and benefits.

“When God created the plants by His speaking voice, He imbued them with His Word and His intelligence. This includes the oils of the plants which He intended, from their very creation, to become our medicines when we need healing.”Dr. David Stewart, PhD

Essential oils are the natural aromatic liquids that are in the plants and trees; “the water immiscible, lipid soluble portion of plant juices that give it fragrance, flavor, character and life”, according to Dr. Stewart. They are the vital life blood, the very “essence” of the plant!

Pure essential oils are natural organic substances produced by a plant. Like mother’s milk they are a part of the plant and yet a separate substance from the rest of the plant. This oil is not made by soaking these things in oils like olive oil – these are oils from the plants themselves.

These oils are all around us every day – we experience their fragrances when we squeeze a fresh slice of lemon into our tea or walk by the flowers in a garden or put up a live green Christmas tree!

Essential oils are distilled from the flora of:

  • Trees
  • Shrubs
  • Bushes
  • Flowers
  • Leaves
  • Fruit
  • Stems
  • Bark
  • Roots
  • Seeds
  • Gums
  • Resins

Essential oils can balance and support our endocrine, digestive, circulatory, reproductive and nervous systems.

When a plant is broken it “bleeds” the oleo-gum-resin we call essential oil into its wound to facilitate its’ healing.

These plant oils are different than the fatty oils in the plant. Those larger molecules of plant oils are like the kinds from nuts and vegetables, whereas the consistency of the essential oil portion is more like water. It feels slightly oily to the touch but it quickly absorbs without oiliness left on the skin.

This oil is highly volatile so it readily evaporates in air. This volatility also allows it to quickly absorb into our skin as compared to vegetable oils that sit on top of the skin. The molecules that the oleos consist of are so tiny that they can penetrate every cell of our bodies administering healing therapy down to our body’s most fundamental levels. They are capable of penetrating cell walls even if the cells have hardened, in fact – they can affect every cell in the body within 20 minutes and then be metabolized like other nutrients!

Dr. Stewart explains in his book Healing Oils of the Bible, that because of the miniscule “molecular structure of the components of an essential oil, they are extremely concentrated. One drop contains 40 million-trillion molecules. Numerically that is a 4 with 19 zeroes after it: 40,000,000,000,000,000,000.”

One drop of pure therapeutic-grade essential oil contains 40 million-trillion molecules. Numerically that is a 4 with 19 zeros after it: 40,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Considering that it only takes one molecule of the right kind to open a receptor site and communicate with DNA to alter cellular function, you can see why even one drop or inhaling a small amount of oil vapor can have profound effects on the body, brain and emotions.

According to Connie and Alan Higley’s Reference Guide for Essential Oils, “Essential plant oils contain oxygen molecules that help to transport nutrients to the starving human cells. Because a nutritional deficiency is an oxygen deficiency, disease begins when the cell walls lack the oxygen for proper nutrient assimilation. By providing the needed oxygen, essential oils also work to stimulate the immune system.” They are “…very powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants create an unfriendly environment for free radicals. Antioxidants prevent all mutations, work as free radical scavengers, prevent fungus, and prevent oxidation in the cells.”

Pure essential oils have been shown to destroy all tested bacteria and viruses without destroying good, healthy bacteria and tissue. They may also be considered a form of detoxification of the cells and blood.

Essential oils also have aromatic benefits. When diffused into the air they can:

  • Purify the air
  • Remove metallic particles and toxins from the air
  • Increase atmospheric oxygen
  • Increase ozone and negative ions in the area (which inhibits bacteria)
  • Destroy odors like mold, cigarettes, animals, etc.
  • Naturally fill the air with a fresh and fragrant scent

Essential oils benefit every part of us; physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

Besides the benefits directly to our persons, essential oils are also useful for personal care, cleaning purposes, insect repellants, animal care and of course, fragrance and perfume!
